borzoi Boo goes RWB and best BBE

Once again it was time for my annual excursion to the Fall specialty hosted by the Rocky Mountain Borzoi Club in Longmont, Colorado. It’s always great to meet up and visit with the folks in the area, as well as getting to see all the lovely local borzoi there. My traveling companion was Leslie and her lovely girl Danika – their first trip to RMBC.

After an uneventful (for us) Sweepstakes competition, we had a touch of success in the breed judging. Beast (Gryffyn’s Aeyrie Party Animal, a J/T – Demi son) placed third in the Bred-by Exhibitor Dog class, despite being a hairless white and cream colored “spider,” having turned a year of age the day before the show. He managed to behave long enough to put in a fairly decent performance moving around the ring, as well as actually standing still during the exam (“stillness” does not tend to sit well with the boy).

Faina (Gryffyn’s Aeyrie Goody Two Shoes) was entered in the Open Bitch class and managed a third placement in some nice competition. She enjoys herself no matter what and I figure would be happy to chase majors for years since it would mean a trip out for her.

Solo (Can. Ch. Am. GCh DC Gryffyn’s It’s All About Me, SC SOR GRC FCh ORC) I had high hopes for. During his travels in Canada the judge at this specialty (Fred Dewsbury) had given him a Group 1 and been very complimentary of him. Well…so much for hoping, as Solo did not even receive an AOM. The judge did tell me that he had considered using him, but found him to be carrying a bit too much weight [sigh]. Oh well I guess that is a valid statement and when he had seen him previously, Solo was is what we refer to as “running weight” – and that is certainly not the case now, especially considering he is now 8 years of age and spends much more time hanging out on the couch.

Our star this year at the Rocky Mountain Borzoi Club specialty was Boo (Gryffyn’s Aeyrie Boudicca)! After winning the Bred-by Exhibitor Bitch class, she went on to take Reserve Winners Bitch. She then was awarded Best Bred-by-Exhibitor, winning the Steve Gross Memorial Trophy.
