BooFest Silken Specialty Show

Lafayette, CA

In a momentary lapse of reason, I decided to drive the almost 1,800 miles to Lafayette, CA! We had various duties we needed to take care of such as dropping Ginger off for her tryst with Strider and pick up our newest addition, Appley, from Alison and leave Ember with her. We ended up with some extra non-Silken transports as well!

At BooFest, several of our hounds made a nice showing. Evan won the 9-12 Puppy Dog class and then went on to win Best Opposite Puppy in Show. A shame that my momentary lapse extended to entering Evan in the wrong age class, so his win was later rescinded. Oh well – he *did* still win against the older dogs! Trouble won her large and very competitive 6-9 Puppy Bitch class; Luna won the Bred By Exhibitor class; and Ember took 3rd in a very large Open class. Also in the Open class was Dreamer, shown by her owner Paige, who went on to win Reserve Winners Bitch! Sister Luv took third in the American-bred class, just ahead of Kandi. Tyler was the only Special pulled in the Best of Breed competition, as the judge was extremely fond of the two class dogs that had won their respective sexes that day. We also had fun catching up with those we had met before in CA two years ago, as well as meeting some new folk. All in all – a fairly successful outing!

On the long trip home, I ended up with an unexpected addition to the trip – a sweet but starved 4-month old pup wandering and foraging on the shoulder of I-40. I couldn’t help but stop and she’s now here being fed and loved and looking for a permanent home. We have christened her Priscilla, as in “Queen of the Desert”.
