Of Dying Vans, Discriminatory Hotels, and Silkens…Lots of Silkens

Of Dying Vans, Discriminatory Hotels, and Silkens...Lots of Silkens The Sprinter van was officially declared dead Friday morning. The motor mounts had rusted and/or broken and the engine had shifted. The catalytic converter was also shot. It was a 2003 model and had over 319,000 miles on it – we had worked it hard, but it was still sad to bid adieu. Since I was headed down to Magnolia for a Silken Windhound specialty, near a friend of our’s dealership, and they actually had some vans available there...

Texarkana KC 2016

By R. Lynn Shell  Jun, 21, 2016   Posted in dogshow
Finally time to dip my toes back into the AKC pool with a brief trip to Texarkana with a couple of Borzoi, Rusti and Barbee. I didn’t make the shows in Denton – sent Victor instead – so it was kinda nice to get back out again. Even better since I was sharing a room with longtime-no-see friend Rebecca!! We met up at the show site a little after 8 in the evening, trying to find the ever-so-rare space for grooming. Rebecca had...

2014 UKC Gateway Nationals - Deuce Rules!   Once again the drive was made to Gray Summit, MO to partake of the Gateway Nationals at Purina Farms. We have managed some successful trips to this venue in the past, but this year gave us astronomical results!! This time around I brought Deuce since he remains the top Silken Windhound in the UKC. Also in tow were Siren, Velvet (Deuce’s sister) and Onyx. Siren and Onyx were kind of last-minute additions and had not been...

So proud of our beautiful, deserving boy! One of Pasha’s BOB wins at the 2013 Gateway shows It took some traveling for this accomplishment – in addition to the “local” shows in...

Party Time – Beast is a New Champion!

By R. Lynn Shell  Jan, 06, 2014   Posted in dogshow, featured, gallery
Party Time - Beast is a New Champion! Our first show of the year in Texas is the Nolan River Kennel Club cluster held in the little town of Glen Rose, known for its dinosaur tracks. We have had some nice success here in the past, and it is a show site that we enjoy. There used to be lure coursing trials held in conjunction with the shows, which made for some long days – but those times are now gone. I fondly remember when we had Solo out as a special and he went from winning...

Fort Bend Kennel Club – A New Borzoi Champion for Gryffyn’s Aeyrie!

By R. Lynn Shell  Jan, 20, 2013   Posted in dogshow, newtitle
Fort Bend Kennel Club - A New Borzoi Champion for Gryffyn's Aeyrie! January 19 At the Saturday show in Rosenberg, Ray took Winners Dog for 2 points and finished his AKC conformation championship. Boo then won her Bred-by Exhibitor class and went on to Winners Bitch / Best of Winners for 2 points. With this win, she entered what we so fondly call the “singles club” – needing a single point to finish. The judge was Elizabeth Muthard. So happy that Victor went down while I was home in bed nursing...

Lone Star Classic – December 2012

By R. Lynn Shell  Dec, 09, 2012   Posted in dogshow, featured, gallery
Lone Star Classic - December 2012 On Saturday, Boo (Gryffyn’s Aeyrie Boudicca) won the Bred-by Exhibitor bitch class and went on the Winners Bitch and Best of Winners for a 4-point major. A young and gangly Beast (Gryffyn’s Aeyrie Party Animal – Boo’s half-nephew) was Reserve  Winners Dog (and the judge had some nice comments about him, despite it looking like I was showing a white/cream tornado). He showed fairly well considering his lack of...

UKC Shows (Hutto) and Siren’s Big Debut

By R. Lynn Shell  Dec, 03, 2012   Posted in dogshow, featured, gallery, newtitle
UKC Shows (Hutto) and Siren's Big Debut Well this had to be the most exciting UKC weekend ever for us! First, let me introduce one of the players. Some of you who attended the 2009 SilkenFest in MO may remember a little extreme white with tan sable spotted bitch that Victor was showing who absolutely refused to come off the cement area where the judge had examined her, and on to the grass so she could be put through her paces in the lovely grassed ring. The judge had finally excused...

Pasha is Grand

By R. Lynn Shell  Nov, 03, 2012   Posted in dogshow, newtitle
Today I opted to spend the morning taking Pasha, Shadow and Jules to the morning UKC show in Denton instead of to the LGRA racing “around the corner” in McKinney – Victor took care of that duty. Pasha had been taking time off for an extended period following a ligament injury sustained in June. At first believed to be a possibly career-ending cruciate injury, after further testing and consultation with a vet not so eager to...
