BCOA National Specialty Show

Mesquite, Texas

What a whirlwind weekend this was for us – both helping to host as well as show at the 2005 Nationals! We were constantly on the go and seemingly never able to rest – and trying to survive on minimal sleep each night. But WOW – what a good time we had – and our dogs did fairly well considering the intense competition.

Flareon got off on the wrong foot, literally…dislocating her inside toe on her hind foot – so she was out of the running. Thankfully we brought out the “good” Doodle – who finished 7th overall out of 27 runners in a “boys day out” event – as she was Best Opposite Sex, managing to defeat the winner of the prior two years (a bitch we greatly admire, and who was at an unfortunate hormone low after having been in heat). The visiting Beaudreaux placed a respectable 5th (tying for 4/5 overall and 3rd of the non-GRCs) and earned points towards his GRC title.

Monkee ran as expected – creatively :). Following her usual modus operandi of disagreeing with the course designer, she did not place, but she certainly enjoyed herself and others enjoyed seeing her. Beaudreaux had a run-off for 4th/NBQ in one of the Field Champion stakes, and placed 4th in that stake.

An exciting opening night event for the conformation events. All three of our entries made the cut in their classes. In the end, Deckard won a 4th place in the 6-9 Month Puppy Dog class with Victor showing him.

Deckard, Astin, Spyce and Bugg each made the cut in their classes. Spyce then went on to take 4th place in the 6-9 Month Puppy Bitch class!

Regular Classes
Deckard won 3rd place in the 6-9 Month Puppy Dog class. Astyn then went on to take 4th place in the 12-18 Month Dog class – both boys garnering their share of compliments during the picture-taking. The Bred-By-Exhibitor class was quite exciting, despite the fact that we came away without a placement: there were 21 dogs present in the class, of varying ages. Solo was the “baby” in the class at the tender age of 8 1/2 months – yet he still made the first cut while much more mature dogs left the ring. Unfortunately he did not make further cuts – but we were very proud that he got as far as he did. Spyce and Bugg each made the cut in their class (6-9 Month Puppy Bitch and 12-18 Month Bitch). Magik made several cuts in a large Open Bitch class, eventually going on to place 2nd! Burni was shown in Specials and made several cuts, unfortunately not making the last one. Oh well – he certainly did better than we thought he would considering he is not quite the “style” preferred by the judge!

Best of all – the comments and compliments we received on our dogs from other exhibitors was very rewarding – after all – we are bringing our dogs to such events to be seen by the fancy at large.

Silkenfest (the Silken “nationals”)

Austin, Texas

Ember defeated sister Kandi in the 6-9 Month Puppy Bitch class, and then went on to be awarded Best Puppy in Show! Luna won a very competitive Bred-By-Exhibitor Bitch class (had to work hard for that one!). Ginger won Best of Opposite Sex.
